Microneedling

A guide to microneedling + complementary services to soften folds and bring out the beautiful best in your skin

With time, lines and wrinkles can appear on formerly smooth and youthful skin. These signs of aging can be hastened by environmental factors, notably exposure to environmental damage, particularly harmful UV light. Microneedling gets to the source of lax, wrinkled skin: the loss of firming collagen and springy elastin proteins.

At Mitchell Dermatology in Perrysburg and Fremont, Ohio, this well-tolerated way to “remodel” or rebuild lost collagen may be complemented with other energy-based therapies and powerhouse “skin-loving” ingredients. If you are currently seeking “facial microneedling services near us,” our team can help.

Facial transformation with “supercharged” microneedling

Led by a 25-year industry veteran and Board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Hope Mitchell, our talented team may recommend microneedling to trigger a beneficial healing process. Also known as “collagen induction therapy,” microneedling involves applying a pen-like handpiece that contains dozens of ultra-tiny, sterilized needles to the targeted treatment site or area of concern.

These needles are painlessly used to create microchannels or pin-pricks in the skin. This procedure stimulates a healing process; collagen and elastin are produced in the affected dermal layer of the skin to aid in closing these micro-wounds or controlled injuries. As these beneficial proteins are renewed in the skin, patients notice that their wrinkles and other imperfections are softened. Their skin appears smoother and tighter.

Radiofrequency (RF) energy or radio waves may be incorporated into microneedling to further amplify the results from treatment. RF-based aesthetic devices and therapies generally work by delivering the energy precisely to the target tissues. As RF energy is applied, therapeutic heat is generated. This process kicks the production of fresh collagen and elastin into high gear. RF-assisted microneedling, in turn, can achieve and support more dramatic transformations in the skin’s appearance and texture than microneedling or Radiofrequency therapies alone.

More on what to expect

Generally, treatment is tolerated well by most patients with the addition of a topical numbing cream. Patients may temporarily experience a warm, pinprick-like sensation. Little to no downtime is associated with this innovative process; however, you may have some lingering and localized bleeding, redness, and swelling for up to 24 to 48 hours.

At first, you may notice a more radiant, glowing, and smoother complexion. As collagen is produced, the results only get better. “Peak” improvements to wrinkles and laxity may be noticed at around six months. Results are sustained with a good skin care regimen and maintenance treatments. On average, treatment only takes 15 to 30 minutes each time and spans three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart.
