Healthy, Youthful Skin Starts With A Consultation At Mitchell Dermatology

The World Health Organization reports that as much as 90% of the visible signs of aging on our skin are caused by ultraviolet light from the sun’s rays and artificial sources, such as tanning beds. No skin type is “immune” from the effects of cumulative, unprotected UV exposure. Board-certified medical and cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Hope Mitchell of Mitchell Dermatology in Perrysburg and Fremont, OH, is experienced at working with a diverse array of patients. She is skilled at developing skin care regimens in consultation with her patients, which addresses their one-of-a-kind needs. With her mix of guidance, techniques, technologies, and medical products, Dr. Mitchell is well-equipped to prevent, minimize, or completely fade signs of aging and sun damage not limited to:

  • Hyperpigmentation (brown spots)
  • Lines and wrinkles
  • Broken capillaries
  • Diffuse redness
  • Laxity
  • Dry skin
  • Leathery texture

Dr. Mitchell has also developed subspecialty interests in skin cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment in her long and distinguished career. That is an important distinction; some splotches may be much more nefarious than an annoying “age spot.” They could be indicative of pre-cancerous or cancerous lesions. Most skin cancers are highly treatable when detected early. This fact underlines the importance of developing a consistent, healthy relationship with a dermatologist.

Habits for a long, healthy life

Exercise daily? Eat nutritiously? But you skimp on taking care of and protecting your skin? If so, you cannot truly be healthy without proper skin protection. The skin is our largest organ, and it is responsible for so many vital functions – including temperature control and protecting internal organs from external and environmental threats. Dr. Mitchell continuously stays abreast of the latest research. You can trust that her recommendations for care, therapy, and products are sound and safe:

  • Notably, regardless of your skin color, select a broad-spectrum sunscreen product that blocks out both UV-A and UV-B light and use it daily. Yes, the sun’s rays still pose a threat to your skin health, even on cloudy or overcast days. Look for a higher Sun Protection Factor of at least SPF 30. The higher the SPF, the greater the protective benefits.
  • Many patients do not use sunscreen the right way. They apply too little of it each time, or they don’t reapply as often as they should. It is generally recommended to slather on at least one ounce of sunscreen to cover your body each time you apply. It is about the size of a shot glass. For sustained safety, apply sunscreen once every two hours when you are outside for prolonged periods. You should use it more often if you are swimming or otherwise “sweating off” the product.
  • Within Mitchell Dermatology, we operate MD SKINCARE. Following your evaluation, we can recommend specific medical-grade products to incorporate into your routine. The active ingredients in these products are generally more concentrated than OTC or store-bought products. So, they provide accurate results. We also offer a range of aesthetic options to reset the clock and promote healthy skin, from superficial to deep peels and injectables such as Botox® to hydrafacials and microneedling therapy.
