You’ve probably read about radiofrequency microneedling on a beauty blog or social media by now. Is this trendy treatment worth trying, though, and what exactly are its advantages? Dr. Hope Mitchell and her handpicked team of medical experts are proud to offer many of the most cutting-edge non-surgical cosmetic procedures to Perrysburg residents. Our patients have been ecstatic with the results we’ve achieved with RF microneedling. This treatment option is relatively new and has the ability to stimulate the growth of healthy new skin, resulting in a reduction of acne scars, wrinkles, and other imperfections.

Radiofrequency Microneedling (RFMN)

A non-surgical method of improving the look of fine lines, acne scars, and sagging skin. Although conventional microneedling has been used for over 25 years, this cutting-edge technique uses radiofrequency energy to hasten the rejuvenation process. This treatment creates a controlled injury in the skin that basically tricks the body into believing a repair process with collagen and elastin producing cells is necessary. The subsequent production of collagen and elastic fiber provides smooth, firmer and younger-looking skin.

RFMN targets:

  • Fine lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Stretch marks
  • Appearance of large pores
  • Acne scars and texture concerns
  • Scars from injury or surgery
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Loose, sagging skin
  • Cellulite
  • Hyperhidrosis

What to Anticipate From Radiofrequency Microneedling

In-office microneedling is the method of choice. After prepping your face with a cleanser and applying an anesthetic cream, we will use a microneedling device to make tiny punctures all over your skin. Simultaneously, the dermis is heated by the RF energy, resulting in a tightening of the tissues and the production of new collagen.

You may  have what looks like a mild sunburn when you leave your appointment. Depending on your skin’s sensitivity, you may also experience some mild swelling or bruising after treatment, which should go away on their own within the first few days.

Be extra careful with sunscreen, cleansers, and moisturizers for the week following microneedling. During this time you may notice that your skin feels tight, dry, and flaky as your skin sheds dead and damaged cells and regenerates new ones. Keep your skin moist and hydrated to maximize healing.

Frequently Asked Questions About RF Microneedling

When Can I Expect to See Changes?

Optimal results typically occur between the third and sixth treatment. After a few weeks, you should see progress, with full effectiveness manifesting after three to six months. The body needs time to produce new collagen, so results won’t be seen right away. The effects from producing your own collagen may last up to one year and require maintenance treatments.

Does RF Microneedling Involve Any Downtime?

There will be little to no downtime, and you can get back to your regular routine quickly. Since UV damage will lessen your results, it is important to always wear sun protection and stay out of the sun while your skin heals. For a few days, try to stay away from products that are too harsh. It is crucial to adhere to your post-procedure care instructions, such as moisturizing your skin to prevent dryness and flakiness, to ensure proper skin healing.

Can I Benefit From Radio Frequency Microneedling?

RF microneedling is generally safe and well tolerated. Good candidates have moderately visible signs of aging and realistic expectations for the results of treatment. People who are pregnant and have skin infections cannot have this procedure.

Is There an Optimal Age for RF Microneedling?

There’s no target age for RF Microneedling; however, since collagen production decreases in the 20’s and stops in the early 30’s, it is recommended that this procedure be considered as a treatment option to help maintain collagen production.

Will My Botox or Fillers Be Affected by RF Microneedling?

There have been no related documented adverse effects noted related to combining these treatments. Your medical professional will advise the sequence in which these treatments should be done.

Is RF Microneedling painful?

We take all necessary precautions to ensure your safety and comfort during RF microneedling, just as we do with every non-surgical procedure we perform. This involves administering a topical anesthetic prior to the procedure if necessary. The process of recovery is simple and causes very little discomfort.
