Defining PRP
Platelet Rich Plasma works by adding platelets from your blood to the scalp as a treatment for thinning hair. How is this done? Dr. Mitchell expertly and gently injects the prepared PRP directly into the treatment area. The platelets that are isolated and concentrated by our team contain beneficial substances called “growth factors.” These factors trigger regrowth and are associated with thicker follicles, through which new hair grows.
When in Dr. Mitchell’s competent hands, PRP is safe and appropriate for patients with hair loss, ranging from localized thinning at the temples to generalized or widespread balding. Provided that there is no follicle scarring, you may see results as quickly as a few weeks post-treatment!
Steps toward a fuller head of hair
To “prepare” the PRP, we will draw up a small amount of your blood. It is no different than when your GP may take a sample for the lab to test during your annual physical. The blood is then placed in a centrifuge machine, which spins the sample. This process, in turn, separates the blood into its “parts,” which results in cells that are enriched and heavily concentrated with platelet cells. When combined with plasma, platelet factors promote cellular growth and healing.
After Dr. Mitchell applies the PRP to your treatment areas, the process of hair regrowth is triggered. As platelet cells release growth factors, tissues are repaired, and the thickness of your hair is restored.
Seize the many advantages!
PRP is an “autologous” substance, meaning that it is derived from your own body. Since we use your blood, the risks of failures associated with these injections are avoided. Generally, there is some risk of allergic reactions or sensitivities to synthetic, injectable products. As a method to enhance and accelerate healing, PRP is also a low-downtime, minimal side effects procedure. With that being said, PRP is just like any other treatment – it is not suitable for every patient with balding or thinning hair. Dr. Mitchell will perform a thorough evaluation and, from there, can make the most appropriate recommendations to restore your hair and self-confidence!
