Treating Acne at Mitchell Dermatology

When the pores in your skin become blocked by dirt, oil, and dead skin cells, a pimple or two may develop.  When your skin is repeatedly affected by these conditions, you may have what’s referred to as acne.

Acne can appear on your face, neck, chest, back, shoulders and upper arms in the form of blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, cysts, or nodules deep under the skin.

While acne is a condition that affects mostly teenagers, and nearly all teenagers will have some form of acne between the ages of 13-19, adults of any age can experience bouts of this condition.

Acne is not contagious or life-threatening, but it can be painful, cause physical disfigurement such as scarring, and contirbute to social emotional distress, especially in young adults.

Treatment for acne condition varies depending on the type and severity of lesions, as well as the patient’s skin type, age and lifestyle.  At Mitchell Dermatology, we treat acne patients on a daily basis with topical and/or oral medications as well as other methods.
