Creating a Skincare Routine For dry, Dehydrated Skin

Having dry, dehydrated facial skin can be a difficult and frustrating experience. It can leave you feeling uncomfortable, causing itching and redness, making it harder to put your best face forward. But with the proper skincare routine, you can keep your skin hydrated and healthy.

At Mitchell Dermatology, our Board-Certified dermatologist, Dr. Hope Mitchell of Fremont and Perrysburg, Ohio, provides tips on creating an effective home skincare routine for dry, dehydrated skin.

What are some tips and recommendations for creating a skincare routine for dry skin?

Dehydrated skin treatment requires patients to consider the benefits of certain products and treatments that can help provide deep moisturization and ways to keep moisture in the skin.

Here are a few recommendations to help you create a skincare routine that works!

  • Cleansing. You must keep your skin clean, but you should also avoid using harsh cleansers that can strip the skin of its natural oils and cause further dehydration. Try using a gentle cleanser that does not contain sulfates or fragrances, and use lukewarm water when washing your face.
  • Exfoliation. Regularly exfoliating once or twice a week removes dead skin cells to reveal fresh, healthy skin underneath. It also aids in product absorption so your skincare products can better penetrate the deeper layers of your skin and provide more effective results.
  • Moisturization. When it comes to moisturizing your skin, look for certain products containing hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and ceramides. These bind moisture into the skin so it stays hydrated longer. Also, choose a moisturizer that is suitable for your skin type and avoid anything with fragrances or other irritants that can dry out your skin further.
  • Skin protection. Sun exposure to dry skin causes damage and irritation–which can make things worse. Always apply sunblock with SPF 30 or more before going outdoors.
