Mitchell Dermatology provides an entire category of wrinkle-relaxing treatments: called neuromodulators. Botox®, the first FDA approved neuromodulator, is an injection therapy that is made from the botulinum toxin, a purified bacterium. It is an innovative treatment that temporarily paralyzes the muscles responsible for frown lines and crow’s feet. Botox® functions by disrupting the nerve signals responsible for muscle contractions.
Glabella “11’s”, crow’s feet, chin dents, and other “expression lines” result from the cumulative effects of repeatedly squinting, frowning, and otherwise expressing oneself over time. In youthful and plump skin full of elastin and collagen, these lines are dynamic and only visible when making the expression. As the skin loses its elasticity, these lines become static and are noticeable all the time, even when the face is at rest. After receiving a Botox® injection, the muscles in the treated area relax, resulting in a reduction in the appearance of both superficial and deep creases and lines. The effects of Botox® injections can last for several months or longer, allowing you to maintain a fresh and vibrant appearance.
The needles are small and thin and most people say the procedure barely hurts. However, there may be an injection site pinch followed by redness and slight swelling that typically goes away by the end of your appointment.
All patients, regardless of their skin type, can rest assured that their results will look natural and that their safety is in great hands when partnering with Dr. Mitchell and her knowledgeable, medically trained providers at Mitchell Dermatology. You can still squint, smile, frown and otherwise express yourself naturally. Patients look healthier and more well-rested, not like they’ve “had work done.”
Botox® treatment can be done in just one quick appointment at our offices in northwest Ohio. After 2 to 4 days, the injected muscle may begin to weaken. You may see maximum results from your treatment anywhere from 10 to 14 days after treatment. Call 419.871.3737 to schedule your consultation at Mitchell Dermatology. During your visit, Dr. Mitchell may also acquaint you with her range of other neuromodulators – including DAXXIFY®, Xeomin®, Dysport®, and Jeuveau®.
When Botox wears off, it gradually breaks down and gets metabolized by the body. The muscle activity returns to normal, and any temporary effects on wrinkles or fine lines diminish over time.
Factors such as metabolism, muscle activity, and individual response to treatment can influence how quickly Botox wears off. Additionally, lifestyle factors like sun exposure, stress, and smoking may contribute to a faster breakdown of Botox.
Some people may appear older after Botox due to overuse or improper injection techniques. This can lead to loss of facial expression or an unnatural appearance. It’s crucial to seek treatment from a skilled and experienced practitioner who understands facial anatomy to achieve natural-looking results.
