Mitchell Dermatology empathizes with men and women struggling with thinning and hair loss. Our licensed professional team of physician assistants, led by Dr. Hope Mitchell, has extensive experience treating many types of hair loss. With an understanding of the nature and root cause of hair loss, we can recommend treatments that effectively restore their hair, confidence, and self-image. Patients seeking nonsurgical treatments in Perrysburg and Fremont, Ohio, are in luck. We are proud providers of PRP injections.
PRP stands for “Platelet Rich Plasma.” This treatment involves injecting platelets from your blood directly into the scalp. These platelets contain powerful growth factors. Such substances are essential to stimulate the growth of new cells and to heal wounds or damage. By unlocking the power of these factors, we promote regrowth and thicker hair follicles.
PRP-assisted hair restoration is safe and ideal for individuals experiencing hair loss. We have successfully used PRP to treat patients with both “localized thinning” (in specific areas, such as the temples) and more “generalized” or “all-over” hair loss and balding.
Hair loss or alopecia may be described as “scarring” or “non-scarring.” The former type is characterized by inflammation, which can permanently destroy the hair follicles. The latter type is not associated with destruction but rather preservation of the follicles. Our patients receiving PRP injections typically see results after one to two treatments, especially if scarring is absent. Some patients reported reduced shedding and improved hair texture after one treatment session. Significant, optimal, and lasting results can be attained through repeated treatments scheduled over weeks or months, as recommended by Dr. Mitchell.
We perform comprehensive evaluations, including biopsies as needed, to establish definitive diagnoses. Our team has significant expertise in treating a diverse community of patients with many different hair types. So, we are confident in our ability to tailor treatments to your one-of-a-kind needs. Our therapies also serve as alternatives to invasive surgical hair restoration and its associated risks and downtime. PRP, for instance, is safe and predictable as the platelets are derived from your blood. Injections are also fast, do not require “downtime,” and potential side effects are comparatively minimal.
