Dr. Mitchell and her team of licensed physician assistants and nurses in Fremont and Perrysburg, Ohio, can support complete dermatological services. Additionally, over her 25-year career, Dr. Mitchell has treated a diverse range of patients with an equally diverse range of concerns, from sagging skin to acne scarring. Regardless of your skin type or tone, rest assured you are in good hands at our practice.
Microneedling is one of many examples of how Dr. Mitchell has carefully selected only the best technologies, clinically proven to be safe and effective for her valued patients. This non-surgical treatment extends back to the early 1900s. However, we now have access to the latest devices to perform and complement treatment, as well as advanced skincare products to optimize the results from microneedling.
This process largely involves creating microscopic channels or openings in the skin. These carefully applied openings are made with a handheld device equipped with numerous tiny and sterile needles. After these microchannels have been made, your body goes to work to repair them. To do so, more collagen and elastin are produced. Since these naturally occurring proteins are responsible for many wonderful skin qualities (from firmness to elasticity), patients gradually notice improvements in the appearance and feel of numerous common skin concerns such as sagging, fine lines, and wrinkles.
An easier question may be, “What cannot be treated with microneedling?” There are just so many potential applications for it! Our team has successfully treated patients with everything from fine lines and wrinkles to visible pores, acne scars, stretch marks, uneven skin tone, and laxity.
Yes! Microneedling is designed differently from earlier-generation therapies (such as older lasers and light-based procedures). It is considered a safe, low-risk procedure even for those patients with deeper pigmented skin that never burns. Additionally, every service and technology available at our practice supports the safest and most comfortable experience for all patients because we have considerable expertise in treating a spectrum of skin tones.
First, your skin is cleansed. Then, a topical numbing cream is applied. After around 30 minutes, once the treatment sites are fully numbed, we pass the microneedling device over the skin. We may repeat the process as needed. Microneedling may even be paired with Radiofrequency energy as a “hybrid” treatment. For optimal results, we can also apply a targeted serum, tranexamic acid, hyaluronic acid, PRP, and more. The most appropriate additions or approaches depend on your specific needs.
RF microneedling combines the process detailed above with Radiofrequency or radio waves. The energy generates heat, which is applied in a controlled manner to the microchannels. This twist on conventional microneedling may be most appropriate for individuals with lax, saggy skin and scars and wrinkles. Most commonly, patients describe a fleeting feeling of pin pricks and warmth. The actual treatment can be completed in just 15 to 30 minutes.
